Wasted Money on Article Writing

Ever felt like you have wasted money on article writing services? Ever got that sick feeling after you receive the articles that you have paid for and realised that some how they are just not up to mark?

I have had quite a few experiences of hiring article writers to write articles for me, often paying them a range of US$2.50 to US$5.00 for a 500 word article. When the article comes back, it is just not up to mark and by looking through the article, it is quite obvious that the person has both a poor command of the language as well as the topic that he or she is writing about.

So the file sits in my mailbox and as hard as I want to touch up the article and re-write portions of it (so that it is suitable for publication on any of my sites), I just can't bring myself to do it. This is because the article is so badly written that I might as well start writing a fresh piece right from scratch!

I figured that I have wasted at least US$10 to US$15 dollars on lousy article writers. At the same time, I have also had good articles written for me so I shall not go so far to conclude that all article writers are bad. It is just so sad to know that there are these articles that I have paid money for and which I can't use at all.

Anyone has similar experiences to share?

From time to time, I have employed some freelance article writers to take the load off writing. Sometimes, I have a general idea of what I want to write so I just drop the idea to a freelance article writer who will write the article for a small sum for me. Of course, I will read through the article to see that it is what I have in mind and only publish it if it is of a certain standard.

Ways To Increase Adsense Earnings

Adsense contributes quite a sizeable source of advertising income for most people who use them on their sites or blogs. Many people also try to target high paying keywords in order to increase the advertising income that they get since Adsense pays different amounts for different ads. You might even have tried to employ one of those methods of finding high paying keywords and writing content about that hoping that somehow that will increase your adsense earnings. But very often, it is not simple as that.

So what might be wrong?

Having pages or content with these supposed high paying keywords is one thing. But driving visitors to those pages is another matter and often the factor that is lacking. If the number of clicks on your ads is a function of the number of page impressions. The number of page impressions is dependent on the number of visitors that you get. To get more clicks, you need to increase your page impressions.

Assuming that you get a fixed number of visitors every day to your site, is there a way to improve the page impression? Yes, there is. It is really about making your site more user friendly. And that includes having some form of site navigation that will get readers to the page that you want them to go to.

Try to picture your site and even navigate your own site. How will you use your site if you were a visitor? Which links would you click on? Having links around your site helps. The colours are also "merged" with the rest of the site so that it is colour coordinated and does not stand out too much.

Many people have speculated and proposed various ideas on what Google's Adsense programme will look like in the near future and how the existing system might change or improve over time. Today, we will take a look at some of these ideas and what it means for the blogging community.

Protection Against Click Fraud for Both Advertisers and Adsense Publishers

Click fraud is a problem. Google needs to protect its AdWords advertisers from this. This will probably have to also take into account possible sabotage that sometimes occurs. So Google will probably have to play the game wisely and ensure that while it protects advertisers, it does not unnecessarily penalise people who have been on the adsense programme and who might also be a victim of click fraud.

Better Targeted Algorithms and Ads

It is not difficult to imagine that targeting ads based on computer algorithms will become even more powerful and precise than they are today. Increasingly, I have noticed that most of the ads targeted at my site are generally relevant to the topic or post. This is not surprising given Google's dominance in the search engine market and how search engine results have changed over the past few years too. So the change that is happening in Adsense is perhaps not surprising. One can only expect more and more targeted ads. This is good for both advertisers and content writers. Advertisements will appear in more appropriate search results and it will also become increasingly difficult for webmasters to "manipulate" how they want advertisements to be shown.

Google has also always been keen on improving its products and this has been seen before in AdSense. The search engine company has introduced site-targeted AdSense CPM, "smart pricing" and domain blocking. Increasingly, many newspapers are also going online and rolling out apps for tablets or iPad. So it might not be too far-fetched for better use of Adsense on all these platforms. Who knows, it might even be possible for Adsense to appear on games or even TV. Of course it might sound far-fetched now but with Google, we never know...

Differentiated Payments - Paying Premium for High PageRank Sites

Who knows? Maybe a possible option will be to also make AdWords advertisers pay a higher premium for sites that have a higher pagerank (PR). Of course, this will mean added cost to advertisers but I am certain a differentiated payment makes more sense. It just does not seem right for a single click to cost the same on a PR 9 site and a PR0 site.

Conclusion - The Future of Google Adsense

200,000 PageViews Achieved for Blog

I achieved 200,000 pageviews for one of my blogs recently. You can view it here at sgfinancialfreedom.blogspot.com . It has been an achievement just to cross that mark considering that I started out really just blogging for fun and to document my thoughts down as a web record.

Over the years, I have managed to earn money from Adsense as well as selling adspace on my sites even though I must admit that I have not been very active in doing the latter. Usually, I am approached by people who are advertisers.

No Time to Write Content
Content generation is really an issue. A big issue. Even for the blog that I mentioned above, I have not had much time to write. The number of new posts for the year 2011 was dismal at less than 100 posts. Other newer blogs have managed a far greater number of quality posts in 1 year compared to the few years that my site has been in existence.I also have to stop allowing guest posts of various content because I find that certain articles written by people hoping to put up a guest post on my site are just not suited for my readers. So I have had to rely quite a fair bit on my own content which is difficult considering that I do not have much time to write each day.

Still, I must say that I have managed well. And the adsense earnings are still coming in daily despite my apparent lack of action or activity.

Earned USD$200 for Selling Ad Space

Managed to earn USD$200 today when an existing client decided to renew the ads on my blogs that were due for expiry. While it was a drop from the last year's USD$250, it is still significant enough to make me happy to know that it is actually possible to monetize my blogs when I am using a completely free blogging tool and domain.

Have also been wondering whether I should start to put more focus on selling ad space which I have not been bothered to at all in the past.

In a little experiment that I am carrying out in showmethecrazy.blogspot.com, I have showed users that is possible to get pagerank 1 in one single month. I started the blog completely new in just mid Oct 2011 and without doing much literally, have managed to propel it to a pagerank of 1.

This little experiment just shows that it is possible to get a pagerank of 1 in just a single month. In fact, if you type in "Show Me The Crazy" in Google, the blog is already listed in the 1st page of search results. Not bad for a starter blog.

New Project Started - PageRank 0 to PageRank 3 in 3 Months

Adsense Earnings and Targeted Traffic

After being on the adsense programme for many years, I have made one simple conclusion: Targeted traffic is the key to driving up your adsense earnings.

The difference between traffic and targeted traffic

When I talk about targeted traffic, I am not just talking about mere traffic or number of visitors to your site alone. I really mean targeted traffic. Normal traffic is akin to your usual or loyal readers who visit your site and are just about willing to read whatever trash or gems you post on any particular day. They land on your site because they are probably bored at work, or are just surfing the internet. There is nothing that they are looking for in particular.

Targeted traffic on the other hand refers to the visitors to your site who are LOOKING for something. They might have stumbled upon your site through certain search engines or a friend might have shared your site with them because they found certain information that was really useful and just wanted to pass it on.

Based on my analysis of my ad performance, I was surprised that some of the rather random posts that I have written were actually the ones where the ads did particularly well. And I realised that it also happened to rank highly in the search engines for particular keywords. This means one thing: the people were looking for something and that drove them to my site. That is targeted traffic. And if one needs to write content, make sure that you write it for a particular group of people. Who is your targeted audience? How old are they? What are they looking for?

Another Adsense Cheque

Have received yet another adsense cheque payment. The amount is around US$120 which is quite reasonable considering the amount of work that I have put in. Or should I say that I have hardly put in any effort.

The earnings have still be unpredictable and though there are days when my adsense earnings can reach as high as $7, there are days it also falters for no apparent reason. New blog posts and stuff just don't seem to work. Sometimes, it almost makes more sense for me to just stop posting new articles and stuff and the adsense earnings actually still come in!

Amazing if you think about it. It is really the Parato principle where 20% of the work drives 80% of the results. Problem is I have yet to identified what I am doing right or wrong. And that will probably take me a longer time to figure out.

PageRank 2 to 3

I just checked out the PageRank of my various blogs and was sadly disappointed to realise that one of my blogs has dropped from a PR2 to PR1. The blog is one of the ones that I have blogged quite a fair bit on regarding Singapore Stocks and is called Singapore Stock Screener.

On the happier side, my financial freedom blog has increase from PageRank 2 to PageRank 3. That is probably the highest it has ever gone.

All the other blogs are perhaps very much still at the same pagerank.

Sometimes, just when I thought I got everything figured out, it seems like there are still surprises. I never knew Pagerank could actually drop. Looks like I must get back to work and start blogging hard again.

Bought a domain name and hosting at USD$50.70

I registered a domain name http://sgstockscreener.com some days back after deciding that I was perhaps ready to try building a site using my very own domain name. I just wanted to try it out for the heck of it and just to learn the intricate details of buying a domain name and using Wordpress to set it up.

What I learnt was that it was relatively easy to set up a site using godaddy. I registered the domain name and bought a one year hosting plan which added up to the 50 bucks spent. Next I installed wordpress, chose the theme and the site was up and running in less than a day. I was quite amazed at the ease of doing it. Of course, it was't as easy as using a blogger platform but it was still relatively simple even for a computer idiot like me!

So far, the site has managed 10 to 50 hits per day. Not too bad considering that I just started out. I will most probably still need sometime before I recoup my investment but I can say that I am pretty pleased with the results thus far. The versatility of wordpress is also quite impressive and I especially like the fact that I can add pages as well as drop down menus based on the categories that I want. Installing link within widget was also much simpler than I thought.

Now that the site is up and running, all that is left for me to do is populate it with unique and quality content and hopefully the traffic will start to roll in.

Earned Almost USD1000 from Blogging

I have earned almost 1000USD from blogging thus far. It has been a 2-3 year journey and I must say a love-hate affair with blogging. I don't have much free time so blogging is actually an on and off thing for me. Do I write well? Maybe...

The truth about blogging

There are days when I run dry. And then there are days I have like a thousand articles I would like to write about.

To me, blogging is just a fun way to express my thoughts (or sometimes even rant at life itself).

But the truth about blogging is that it is fun for me. And that is the most important aspect. If I were doing it for the money, it is seriously not worth my time as I could easily earn much more money by investing my time and energies on other things that will pay me a better per hour rate compared to blogging.

What Do I Do with My Earnings?

There was once I gave away $50 to my readers by just holding a silly contest to see who post the 50th comment on a certain post. Most times, I just bank in the money. I don't really buy anything special. It is not a lot of money in the first place.

The Future of Blogging

Will Google go bankrupt? Will blogging still be around 50 years from now? Will blogger still be operating then? Will all my efforts go down the drain? What differentiates me from other bloggers? How do I reach out to China since blogger is blocked by their censorship board? What about India? How do I reach out to a global audience?

These are the questions that fill my head.

Our world is shrinking, but our blogs shouldn't be.

6th Cheque from Google Adsense

I got my 6th cheque from Google's Adsense program. Slightly over $100USD

Some days, it just seems that I am going nowhere in life. And these cheques will then pop up in my mail box to my surprise. Then suddenly I realise that I have a virtual "life" online where I shed my office clothes and turn into a serial blogger/writer/journalist (except without the high pay and expertise)

USD250 from Online Ads

I managed to sell some ad space at two of my sites for a whopping total of $250 per year. This is my first sales ever of online ad space. I did not find the advertiser but rather the advertiser found me.

After some haggling over the price ( I asked for $240 for the first site. This was bargained down to $150. I offered the 2nd site at $150 and this was bargained down to $100) So that is how the $250 sum came about.

The ad space was just a small one as it was mainly a text ad of less than 20 words.

Perhaps this is a start to me diversifying away from Adsense.

As a tip to bloggers out there, make sure you have a price list ready just in case advertisers start knocking on your door and you have no idea what is the "correct" price to ask for.

Does a Donate Button From Paypal Work

Lately, I have placed donate buttons on a few of my blogs. The readership for those blogs have been pretty steady and it might be good if I get a donation or two. Otherwise, it is perfectly fine with me and I might just use it as a thought experiment.

Ha..how innovative can I get?

But really, I have heard countless stories of how some school going kids are using their blogs for profitable purposes. And I was just wondering whether it was time for me to move away from my normal adsense revenue and explore other more innovative way of making money online.

After all, if the kids can do it, why not me?

Am I writing right?

In pushing my boundaries, I have tried to push for both quality articles as well as quantity. When I write a lot, I realise that the quality of my posts tends to drop. But which is more important: Quantity or Quality?

I guess we can debate till the cows come home and never really be certain.

What is perhaps most important is ranking high up in Google's search ranking.

I remember doing searches on some obscure topics before and realise that blogs can make it to the top of the rankings even though the postings had no quality in them at all. Sometimes, it almost seems that it was a "cut and paste" job done.

I managed to break another new record and earned more than $10 online from a single day! This really shows that hard work does pay off and as long as you put your heart to something, it can come true.

After over 2 years of trial and error, I have finally broken the $10 per day barrier in terms of online earnings from adsense. There were some days that almost looked like they would break the $10 per day barrier but it did not.

I don't know what to expect next. I haven't really been working on any new projects lately and I have not been doing anything that will be considered active.

I have been thinking of doing a blogging blitz again to just chalk up some points and play catch up in my blogging scene. However, work has been piling up and I have found little time to write.

I had a new record again yesterday. A total of 3483 page impressions for one of my sites in a single day. Needless to say, adsense earnings soared for another continuous day.

Of course this information might be totally useless to you. But if you think that some of your older blog postings will no longer be read, you will be surprised. There are certain events or news that might make your previous postings of interest to a much larger audience then you possibly know.

Let's imagine that you blogged about a little known person or topic 5 years ago. And if you keep doing it consistently, you might have clocked up a lot of interesting info about that person. One day, if the person becomes famous, guess what? Your postings are going to be read by thousands if not by millions or people all over the world!

So don't get discouraged by your current earnings. Keep on working at it and hopefully, the results will show one day.

Peter Lim Drives up Viewership to Blog

News about Peter Lim ( a Singaporean billionaire) who made an offer to buy over Liverpool Football Club has caused my adsense earnings to soar over the past 2 days.

It is one of those instances where a previous posting rides the surge in searches for a certain keyword and all of a sudden, you see a tenfold increase in viewership to your site. Of course, the earnings also go up as a result.

This was totally unintentional as I wrote about Peter Lim around a year back. I certainly did not expect him to make the headlines about buying Liverpool FC.

However, there have been instances when I tried to ride the wave of google search trends and blogged about certain topics that were HOT on people's search. That did not last long though as very often, I wasn't passionate about the topic that I was blogging about at all.

I received another cheque from Adsense one week back. Have not found the time to bank it in yet. Cannot remember whether this is the 4th or 5th cheque that I have received. Guess I am losing count and that is good.

I guess the first cheque that I received was special because it made me realise that I can actually do the impossible - Make Money Online!

The 2nd cheque confirmed that the first cheque was not a fluke.

The 3rd and subsequent cheques actually are very much a non-event. I hardly felt much excitement as I sort of expected the cheques to come.

I guess this is what they mean by passive income?

Increase Readership of Your Blog

There are many ways to increase readership of your blog. For people who are famous, it is probably very easy. If you have a large network of friends who are willing to read your blog, it also helps. However, what I have achieved is to actually increase the readership of my blog without relying on any of these factors.

Well, content is really only ONE aspect of the entire equation. You could literally write a Nobel winning peace of work with the most ground-breaking discovery but it could be lost in the ocean of information in the internet.

So sorry. One good article or even one excellent article on a blog will not improve your readership by much.

Just think about it. What do people read everyday?

Why do people read newspapers everyday? If you can pinpont the reasons why people read newspapers, it should give you a clue on what readers are looking for in a blog too. Okay, there might be some difference but the idea is generally the same.

Adsense Earnings Stagnates

My adsense earnings have been stagnating for the longest time. For the past half a year or so, there has neither been a decrease or increase in my earnings.

Interestingly, some sites which I have not bothered updating are actually the ones that are giving me the regular stream of income. While others which I have been updating frequently are not as "productive". Perhaps the strategy I am using is wrong.

There is one particular site that I own which apparently gets the same number of visitors for the past 3 months even though I have not updated it at all!

After all, I have heard people talk about being passionate in what you do. And I guess that motivated me to throw away all the keyword research and SEO that I have been doing in the past. All the keyword research and SEO that I did in the past are probably what got me to where I am today.

I think I need to work smarter to make my adsense earnings go up.

Adsense Earnings Decline and Outsourcing Article Writing

My adsense earnings have been declining steadily over the past few weeks.

I have noticed it and quickly took action by writing more and also increasing the posting frequency. I guess my job hunt has taken a toll on my blogging efforts but I am still trying my best to keep up with blogging. It however can be difficult to produce unique and useful content all the time and I am deciding whether to outsource certain components of my blogs to some Indian firms which specialise in blog designs and article writing.

Content generation is actually the most time consuming aspect of blogging. Marketing also takes time but content generation must be the most tiring.

Should I or shouldn't I? I am not sure whether it will actually pay off in the long run to have other people write content for my sites but I guess the content can actually complement my original content and I could still write every now and then so that readers do not lose touch with me....

Passive Income From Blogs

It is possible to earn abit of passive income from blogging.

I have a blog which I have not worked much on for the past few months and it has been able to pull in a few dollars of passive income from adsense every month.

That is great considering that I do not have to do much work to earn that money.

I think that by writing content that is timeless, one will be able to create a blog that has informational value even after 10 years or 20 years. What is content that is timeless? It could be something that scholars or students or people will want to read up on even after 1 year or 2 years of writing.

Stuff like tabloid news are seldom timeless... For example, I believe there will be very little people searching for terms like BackStreet Boys or stuff nowadays. Today's tabloid news might not have any value 10 years down the road. Unless of course it is tabloid that is related to some big and famous star like Michael Jackson.

So write timeless content and your blog will be useful to readers for a long time.

The 1:1 Exchange Rate Error Bug in Adsense

Many people have reported the error in their online statements for May 2010 about an exchange error that affects those in Asia. Instead of the prevailing currency exchange rate that is used, the online statements shows a 1:1 exchange rate for the US$ to the currency of the adsense publisher's country.

So far, many people have highlighted this to Google and it seems that the problem will be rectified only after Monday due to the US holidays.

It states that though the online statements show the 1:1 exchange rate error, the checks that will be issued will be based on the correct exchange rate.

It does not seem that this is the first time that the exchange rate error bug has hit. A simple search on the internet revealed that the bug was first reported in 2008.

New Record Earnings in A Day

I hit a new high record earnings in 1 day of $5.40.

That is something which I have not achieved in the past few months and it makes me motivated to keep on trying to push the limits. To hit $10 a day will be the goal for the remainder of this year.

Sad to say, I have realised that certain sites which I have updated more frequently are not drawing in the earnings which I think they deserve. Nevertheless, I will continue to work on it.

Pagerank update

Usually, Google updates Pagerank status every quarter or every two months. Nobody really knows the schedule but most forums will usually go abuzz when the pagerank update is near.

In fact, the latest pagerank update just took place yesterday.

I was disappointed that my sites did not manage to get any improvement in terms of pagerank.

This site still remains at PR1 and the other 3 sites that I have been actively working on are still at PR2.

So it seems like I still have alot of work to do.

Are you committing the sin of checking your adsense earnings every now and then hoping that by some miraculous chance, your earnings will go up?

Many people spend way too much time checking on their adsense earnings every now and then. In fact, I am guilty of this bad habit too.

There have been times in my life when I have checked my adsense earnings for literally 5 to 10 times a day. That is almost everytime that I get a chance to use the internet!

Here is one thing that I realised. Checking your adsense earnings can be a total waste of time!

So what if you know how much you have earned today. It will not change anything. You can better use your time to do the following things:

1. Craft more posts.
2. Comment on other people's blog.
3. Do a dead link hunt.
4. Do some search engine optimisation.
5. Do some keyword research.

So there you have it. Some useful things you can do instead of spending time checking on your adsense earnings. I have decided to stop checking my adsense earnings for the rest of this month. I hope I succeed.

Why Adsense Earnings Can Only Go Up

As bloggers or online journalists (what I would term as the new breed of journalists), we can expect our online advertising revenue to go up with Google's recent announcement.

Google has recently announced that it will now serve multiple ads even from other networks. What this means is that there will be greater competition from within the adwords program itself (which is how we get our earnings).

Hopefully, with competing ads from other networks, the higher paying ads will feature on your sites and this in turn should translate to higher payouts per click and higher ad revenue for all of us.

With this announcement, it shows that it is always good to stick to a market leader like Google when it comes to finding advertisers for our sites.

How To Earn $10 A Day From Adsense

A long time ago, I set myself the goal of earning $1 per day from adsense. I have already achieved a certain level of success as my average earnings per month range from $30 to $60 per month. This is quite a formidable feat for me considering that I am only using adsense on my blogs.

What seemed like a long and tedious journey slowly bore fruit as I saw my page impressions increase. So did the number of unique visitors visiting my site. And of course, there was this sheer joy of seeing the pagerank of my sites increase.

With the hurdle of the $1 per day finally cleared, I decided to set the goal of earning $10 per day (or even $100 per day) for this year.

Here are my thoughts on how one might go about earning $10 per day from Adsense:

1. Increase blogging frequency
2. Increase the number of blogs
3. Comment on other people's blogs
4. Link Exchange
5. Search Engine Optimisation & Keyword research

I believe that if I can carry out this 5 steps faithfully, it will be possible to earn $10 a day just from Adsense alone. Maintaining the earnings will however be a different matter altogether as the number of blogs that I have to create will be quite a lot. I estimate that a good 20 to 30 blogs of a certain quality will be necessary. On the otherhand, I could put all my eggs in one basket and hope that one of my blogs will have a much higher number of readers, page impressions and clicks. This is of course a more sustainable strategy but which will also require more effort on my part.

I have read elsewhere in the internet that it is possible to profit from having an adwords campaign working side by side with your adsense ads.

It simply works by paying less for your adwords such that you drive sufficient traffic to your site to increase your adsense earnings dramatically.

How reliable is this method? I did my own calculations here:

100 clicks = $1.00

So you spent $1.00 to drive 100 visitors to your site.

Money earned from Adsense

Assuming the common click-through rate of 1.5%, out of 100 visitors, you can expect 1.5 clicks. Now, you will have to be hoping that each click on an ad unit at your site will earn around $1 just for you to break even. That is highly unlikely as most of the times, ads only pay like $0.10 to $0.50 per click. Out of the clicks you get, not all will be on the high paying ads too.

Very often, we might find that our adsense earnings suddenly take a plunge during certain days. Why does this happen?

For me, the most common explanation that I can find is that the latest post or article that I have published tends to attract low paying ads. This is very obvious especially when you start to see ads that have little relevance to your site popping up at your homepage or whereever your latest posting is at.

With low paying ads, the same number of clicks translates to a lower ad revenue. The trick then is to make sure that you publish another post or article that will attract high paying ads. Keywords in your blog posts and articles are especially important if you want high paying ads to display on your site.

Example:

You are running a personal finance site and your latest article happens to be about travelling. Well, that will of course attract lots of travel ads which might not be very high paying. The simple option then would be to make sure that you post another article that deals with personal finance so as to draw back the high paying ads. Why I Started This Site

I started this site back in 2008 when I was exploring the use of Adsense in my blogs. The purpose of this site was to record down my adsense earnings and hopefully generate earnings from this site too.

It was pretty silly because I did not realise back then that Google actually allows me to track all my adsense earnings daily. When I realised my folly, I decided to stop recording my adsense earnings on this site as it was plain silly. Besides, who will be interested in reading a blog that just talks about my daily adsense earnings every single day?

In 2009, I decided to take this blog to the next level by putting in more content heavy articles so as to contribute to the existing pool of knowledge on what works and doesn't work for Adsense. These various tips are incorporated into this site and should provide a foundational building block to all readers or bloggers or webmasters who are keen on using Adsense to monetise their sites.

I believe that I give a very honest view on my own experiences and hopefully, the reader will be able to discover some of the mistakes that I have made. Hopefully, they will also learn some simple tips that will help increase their adsense earnings.

In 2010, I want to bring this blog to an even higher level. I hope to achieve the 300 posts for this blog by end of the year and also hope that this will increase the pagerank to 2.

Beware the Fake Adsense Screenshot

A lot of people or internet marketers out there have been touting that they have been earning ridiculously high amounts of money from adsense. Many of them even give you a screenshot of their adsense earnings page to PROVE to you that they are the real deal.

DON'T BELIEVE THEM!

These adsense screenshots are easily faked and could be done in a matter of 5 minutes. Whenever you see a screenshot that shows you the amount a person has been earning from adsense, it is most probably faked. The reason is that most people who are earning good money from adsense will know that it is against Google's Term of Service (TOS in short) to display the statistics of their earnings.

Furthermore, for those of us who know how to calculate the various variables in the adsense earnings page, the figures just do not make sense and do not add up. Of course there are those who are still able to compute these figures correctly and put up an adsense earning page that looks "correct".

Fake adsense screenshots are too common and it is good that people are aware of such scams that go around.

There is no magic or tricks to learn from improving your adsense earnings. Nothing really fantastic other than pure hard work. There are of course wonderful tips to help you but this should never cost you an arm and a leg.

In fact, the tips on this site should suffice to help you improve your adsense earnings.

What is Click Through Rate?

In Google adsense lingo or jargon, the click through rate means the number of clicks you get divided by the number of page impressions.

CTR = No. of clicks / No. of page impressions. (Cool formula eh?)

So the CTR (or click through rate) is dependent on two variables. The number of clicks that you get on a particular site and the no. page impressions. The number of page impressions are simply the no. of pages that have been viewed by visitors.

It is widely agreed amongst various expert bloggers that the CTR for most sites should be around 1.5% though this figure can vary on certain days. But in the long run, you can expect a click through rate of 1.5%.

What this means is that out of every 100 page impressions, you can expect 1.5 clicks. (Of course, there is no such thing as 0.5 or half a click)

If you detect that your CTR is very low (i.e. lower than 1.5%), it means that you might need to remedy certain things in terms of ad placement, color or even size of the ads. Changing these might help to improve your CTR.

On the other hand, if you have a very high CTR, do not be happy too soon. What it means is that people are actually leaving your site before they have read all your marvelous content. Do you really want that to happen?

The desired click through rate for most sites should be at 1.5% . Any lower and you should do carry out some modifications to your ads. Any higher, be happy but also monitor it closely to ensure that no click fraud is taking place.

5 Things to Do to Get Blogging Ideas

So you have a blog up and running.... then all of a sudden, you run totally dry of ideas. You no longer have anything interesting to write about. What do you do?

Well here are a few simple things that I do whenever I run out of ideas on what to write:

1. I read the newspapers or online news to find anything interesting that might be related to my niche area that I am blogging about.

2. Look through my last 10 postings. Under each posting, find some topic that is related to the posting which you could expand upon into a single post. Brainstorm and list down any topic that comes into mind which you feel that you have not properly discussed in your previous posting.

3. Read what other people are blogging about in your niche area. After reading their posts, try to see whether you agree with them or not. From there, you will be able to build up another post.

4. Type one of your targeted keywords into Google's all-powerful search engine and see what autocomplete phrases automatically form.

5. Try out Google Trends to see the latest things people are searching for.

How To Earn $1 A Day From Adsense

I have been earning $1 per day from Adsense (and sometimes even more) quite consistently over the past few months. How did I do it?

Firstly, I started updating my sites alot more regularly and frequently.

Secondly, I tried to include quality content over just mere quantity.

Thirdly, I increased the number of sites that I own.

This 3 simple steps were what it took to get me from $0 adsense earnings to a steady $1 per day in adsense earnings. It definitely was not an easy process.

Some experts view that each of their posting is worth in terms of thousands of dollars. For me, I think each of my posting is worth tens of dollars. It is like building up a huge database of articles so that when the time comes for my blog to receive the huge amount of traffic that Google will direct to me, the blog will be able to convert many of these visitors into regular readers.

SHARING MY EXPERIENCE ABOUT ONE BLOG

When I first started this blog, it had only 5 to 10 visitors a week. Sometimes, maybe only 5 to 10 unique visitors in a month. Did I give up? No!

So with 1 reader, I can get around 2 to 3 page impressions. As you will most probably know by now, increased page impressions leads to a greater likelihood that someone clicks on the ads that you have.

The thing about earning money from adsense is to never give up. Even when it seems like nothing is working. Keep trying and one day the money will come.

Another $29 till next adsense payout

At 15 Mar 10, I am at $71 in terms of adsense earnings.

That means that I need another $29 for my 4th adsense payout in 2 years. In the past, making $29 in one or two months would seem like an impossibilty. Today, this has become the norm for my adsense earnings.

In fact, I hope to hit the $29 shortfall by middle of next month. That is roughly $1 per day in terms of adsense earnings and is easily achievable even if I do not update my blogs.

My various blogs draw a high number of viewers each day and somehow, the quantity of postings also keep viewers coming back for more. So even if I do not update the blogs, readers have something to read from the archives that they might not have read before. So each new posting I have is like adding on to my previous work. My blog keeps growing and the adsense earnings also keep rising.

I can only rub my hands in glee as I wait patiently for my fourth Google Adsense Paycheck.

Pagerank is Dead

Whoever says that pagerank is dead does not know what he is talking about.

Google's pagerank algorithm is still very much alive. However, Google is facing all kinds of problems ranking pages with the onslaught of the number of blogs that arise up in the internet. The thing is this : Google needs to ensure that it remains profitable by showing adverts of advertisers to the best publishers.

The internet order has however been turned upside down with the proliferation of countless of blogs. This range from the good to the bad. The problem then is how does Google rank these blogs when compared to more established publishers like newspapers and stuff.

So the rise of this new form of web journalism had some people signalling the end of Pagerank and the entry of a new or better way of indexing pages in Google's search engine. Perhaps, blogs should be left out of Google's index some say.

But that does not solve the problem. At the end of the day, more and more people are turning to blogs for their information, entertainment and lots more. The sprouting up of blogs all over the internet has also been sparked by the craze that people have of making money online. Google itself had provided the means by which people could easily upload information in the form of Blogger.

Pagerank is still not dead. With the rise of the blogs, Google will just have to tweak its Pagerank algorithm to suit the new internet environment that is sprouting out. At the end of the day, people will only link to sites that they find useful. (that is of course excluding people who sell backlinks on their sites).

The new world order of blogs has arrived and the old world of journalism has learnt that they need to embrace it instead of fight against it. They have started to hire popular artists or even stars to write articles for their own blogs. These star studded blogs hopefully will attract more eyeballs than the normal Joe out there who spends his life in anonymity behind some blog.

How Often To Blog?

New bloggers always face this dilemma on deciding how frequently to put up new posts in their blogs.

Frequency versus Regularity

Before discussing how frequently to put up new new posts in your blog, I think that we should clarify the difference between frequency and regularity.

Frequency is the number of times a new post is put up in a week or day.

Regularity is how often the blog is updated.

While it might seem that these two are the same, they are essentially different. A blogger could be putting up new posts very frequently but not regularly. This could be the serial blogger who has what I called "a posting spurt" where he posts 10 to 20 posts in a single day only to leave the blog alone for a few months before posting again.

On the otherhand, another blogger might post very infrequently but still does it on a regular basis. This kind of blogs are usually personal blogs where the bloggers update it once a week or month. Though the postings are not so frequent, they are nevertheless regular and a reader who is visiting the blog knows that when they visit the blog in a month's time, it will be different.

How Often To Blog?

How often to blog depends on the kind of readers you are expecting. If you post too frequently, you might chase them away as it is usually impossible to keep up with the quality of posts. Many experts agree that the posting frequency should be around one posting a day. New blogs should strive to put up at least 2-3 posts a day.

The issue however is not about frequency but about regular postings. If people are left to guess when to visit your blog, they will give up after sometime especially if they noticed that your blog is not updated regularly. Who wants to read stale news afterall?

How often you should blog also depends on the purpose of your blog and its audience. Once you determine who your audience are, you can safely decide how often you should put up new postings on the blog.

Blogging Does not Equal to Earning Money

Some people think that by blogging frequently, they can earn lots of money through affiliate programs or adsense. This is certainly not true.

I have a few blogs and I realised that certain blogs which I have not updated for weeks or months are still earning me a tidy sum of money each month. Talk about passive income!

On the other hand, certain blogs which I update very regularly and frequently are drawing a much smaller online income. So from this, I can vaguely conclude that though there is a correlation between frequency of posting and adsense earnings, there is certainly no simple cause and effect that can be derived.

Adsense Earnings for Feb 2010

After a stellar performance in January 2010, my adsense earnings have declined slightly to end off at $48.97 for the month of February.

It is amazing how unsatisfied I am with this earnings when people are still struggling to even get their first paycheck from adsense.

But the truth is that I have made some goals to hit an average of $10 per day in adsense earnings for this year and if this continues, my goals will not be met. Afterall, isn't earning $300 per month a reasonable amount to ask for considering the amount of time that I spend on my blogs?

Third Cheque from Adsense

I received my third cheque thus far since joining Google's Adsense program in 2008.

The third payment that I received totals to an amount of $180.75.

I have been making very good progress on my earnings in adsense.

Over the past 2-3 months, my page impressions have increased and led to higher adsense earnings. I can consistently earning $1 a day now using adsense. There is of course a lot of hardwork involved.

Click-through rate remains relatively the same regardless of site so it seems that the only way to increase my adsense earnings is thru the following means:

1. Increase page views/ visitors
2. Increase no. of sites

I hope to get my 4th payout by April or May 2010.

Ad Revenue Low?

I have heard people complain that their ad revenue from Adsense is very low.

I am not too sure what that means but I guess they feel that they are not being compensated fairly for the amount of time and effort that they put in for their sites.

HOW MUCH AD REVENUE DO YOU DESERVE?

Ad revenue from online advertisers depends on a variety of factors. Different publishers pay differently for the clicks on the ads. The keywords on your site will also play a part in determining the kind of ads that show up on your site.

If anything is a guide, head to Spyfu and see how much ad revenue you could get based on a single click. From there, you will be able to find out why your ad revenue is so low. It could be simply because that your keywords are not targeted at those high paying ads.

WHICH ADS WOULD GIVE HIGH AD REVENUE?

The answer is quite simple actually. Think of the companies that sell products that deal with lots of money and who are most probably willing to spend lots of money on advertisements just to get a single customer. You will not be expecting Coca-cola to be paying lots of money for online pay per click ads.

I would like to give a rough suggestion on various high paying ads:
1. Mortgage loans
2. Insurance
3. Lawyers
4. Property

All the above mentioned deal with large amounts of money and will most probably be willing to pay good money for quality leads. So if your site's niche is in these areas, you can expect to earn a good amount of money.

SUGGESTIONS TO IMPROVE AD REVENUE

Instead of relying on adsense or other PPC advertisers, you might want to source for your own advertisers. In this way, you gain better control over both the content of the advertisements as well as the money that you can earn.

The most obvious way to improve ad revenue would be to drive targeted traffic that would be interested in the ads at your site.

Adsense Earnings for January 2010

I know it is a bit late to be blogging about my adsense earnings for the month of January 2010 when it is almost close to the end of February.

Anyway, I was just looking through my site when I stumbled upon my records of my adsense earnings for Jan 2009. You can see the posting about my Jan 2009 earnings here.

Record Earnings for January 2010 = $65.22

My revenue for the first month of 2010 was a whopping $65.22.

It has been a roller coaster ride for me throughout the one year. At times, I almost wanted to give up and start using another advertiser or some other means to monetise my various sites. But laziness got the better of me and I stuck with good old Google.

By increasing my posting frequencies and the length of my articles with some attention paid to search engine optimisation, I was able to increase the traffic flow to two of my sites which helped to bring in the largest amount of revenue.

My next goal would be to cross the $100 barrier for adsense earnings in a month and then cross the HUGE barrier of $100 per day. So far, I don't really know of anyone who has managed to done it using legit methods. The methods that I come across online all seem a little BlackHat and a little illegal based on Google Adsense terms of service.

Earning $65 a month from adsense is indeed something that I could never have imagined in 2009. Now, I just have to dream for the stars and hope that I at least hit the clouds.

This Site has Attained PageRank 1

This site has finally attained pagerank 1/10.

I hope to be able to build on this site and continue to develop it into something that will score high in terms of page rank. The higher the pagerank, the more likely that this site will rank highly in Google's search engine results for various keywords.

Hopefully, I can get this site to PageRank 2 by the end of this workyear. That might be a huge challenge considering my other work committments but I will work at it nonetheless.

For the un-initiated, PageRank is Google's way of determining which site is ranked higher than another site by carrying out a link analysis algorithm. In short, the higher your pagerank, the better your site is in the eye of Google.

Adsense Earnings for 2009

I believe that 2009 was a very difficult year for everybody with regards to Adsense Earnings.

For me, I noticed a drop in adsense earnings but this slowly picked up as the economic recovery took place. In fact, I recorded RECORD earnings (pun not intended) for various months in 2009.

In terms of earning goals, I have put that at the backseat as I try to deliver more high quality content to readers. I realised that readers are drawn to quality content at the end of the day. As much as I do have earning goals, the time and effort required to execute my plans made me decide to take my goals a little more lightly this year.

My earnings from adsense in 2009 was $254.54. Not a lot and could have been much better if you ask me.

The revenue source was mainly from two sites that I own and have been posting regularly at.

I am certain that 2010 will be a record year for me and based on current estimates, I could easily hit the $500 mark if I were to continue with my current way of doing things.

Yet, I want to improve upon my earnings and hope that this year will be a much better year for me.

Have you been blogging for sometime but find that you have little or no comments on your site?

To get comments on your blog is actually really simple. Just make sure that you are engaging your readers in a virtual conversation.

While some postings might be more for information or entertainment purposes, it might not harm to ask people what their thoughts are about certain issues. Writing about controversial issues also tend to get a lot more response than if you were to just write about simple day to day topics that might not interest people.

2 Best Tips to Improve Adsense Earnings

I have read many tips on how one can increase their Google's adsense earnings. Frankly, I have not implemented all of them. But I have tried quite a few techniques and I must say that there are a few things one can certainly do to boost their earnings.

I have toggled with it many times and realised that everytime I swapped the Large Rectangle ads for half banners or even full banners, my earnings would drop significantly. Another thing to note is to blend the colors of your ads with those of your blog.

2. Blog regularly. Notice I use the word regularly and NOT frequently. Give people an idea of how often they should visit your site for updates. This should help you to retain existing viewers while attracting new viewers. The key is to make sure that the content on your site is always updated and refreshed so that people will read the information on it. This will help increase your traffic and hopefully pageviews. Another new record for my foray into Adsense.

After long experimentation and trials, I have finally managed to get an all time high adsense earnings for the month of January which stands at $65.22.

Not bad considering that I averaged around 2-3 posts per day.

Lessons Learnt:

1. Page impressions matter. Generally, the higher your page impressions, the higher your adsense earnings will be. Of course, there can be days when there is lot of traffic but you hardly make a cent.

2. Keeping blogs interesting and educational. I have always tried to keep my postings as interesting and educational as possible. This is even done when I have little time to write down my thoughts peacefully. Interesting posts attract readers. Educational posts retains them as your readers. Of course, you can just rely on having interesting posts all day long but there might come a day when your readers abandon you for someone more interesting.

3. I have blogged on 2 separate blogs regarding 2 separate topics. It works well for me at the current rate but I question my ability to do this on 3 separate sites or even 4. The amount of time taken to provide quality content regularly can be daunting especially if the topics are vastly different.

I hope February 2010 will be another record breaker so that I can hit my desired online income of $100 per day. Almost 2 years of effort and still little to show for. I need to get this right!

Some of us write too long paragraphs, some of us forget to respond to comments, etc.

For me, the no.1 sin in blogging is checking my adsense earnings day in day out.

I have been doing it religiously for the past few months as I am amazed at how much my earnings have increased over the years simply by blogging original and creative content.

But then I realised that I am wasting TOO MUCH of my precious time checking this information. Afterall, how much money can one truly earn in adsense when he is just starting out?

On 25 Jan 2010, Monday...........I received my record page impressions!

The total page impressions for that day was 1031. Adsense earnings however was less than $3 for that day.

This only spurs me on to try to hit that 3000 page impressions target that I have set for myself this year.

Hopefully I will be able to achieve another record page impression for the month of February.

The trick I realised was to blog regularly at 2 of my most visited blogs. This helped to draw a constant stream of visitors I guess. January 2010 will indeed be a spectacular month in terms of page impressions, adsense earnings and stuff.

Getting geared up for February already.

I need to further improve in the following areas:

1. Expand this blog to include Adsense and blogging tips. (Not so much about adsense but more about blogging I guess) Afterall, there is only so much you can learn about adsense. Blogging is the key to driving traffic to your site and the traffic will do the job.

2. Increase my postings at improve the content of my posts.

3. Advertise my blogs further.

Yesterday, I recorded the highest page impressions ever of 786.

I reckon that if my page impressions are able to hit 3000 per day, I will be able to earn $10 daily from adsense.

That is my estimate so I guess I have to work a lot harder to do so.

I posted 3 to 4 times in the day for two of my most popular sites. Together, they gave me the bulk of the page impressions.

My adsense earnings are steady at $1 per day or $30 per month.

I figured that if I could get 3000 page impressions PER DAY, I would be able to increase my adsense earnings by 10 times.

That is quite a big jump for me I guess but ever since I have started working on increasing my online income, the impossible has become possible.

Can blogging really earn you enough passive income such that you can work from home?

Let me explore the possibility today.

Take for example a blog that gets 500 page impressions with a click through rate of 1%. That will be 5 clicks for 100 pages impressions. Assuming that each click is only worth $0.20, the blogger will only be earning $1 per blog per day.

If the blogger somehow manages to increase his readership to 50,000 regular readers a day, that translates into a hundred fold increase in clicks and a hundred fold increase in earnings.

The expected amount he will be able to earn will be $100 per day.

However, one must understand that the possibility of creating a blog with 50,000 readers a day is very low. Thus, it is seriously unlikely that any blogger can achieve that within weeks if not months.

The best option is for one to slowly build up their blog over time and see whether they can get the results that they hope for.

Blogging for money is not as easy as it sounds and we should not be deceived by what we read on the net.

Just because somebody has done it and makes a 6 figure income from it does not mean that it is an easy task.

We all know that keywords are very important especially when it comes to getting your pages ranked on top by the search engines. Keyword density is basically the number of times your keyword appears out of the total number of words of your article.

Keyword density used to be an important criterion for webpage rankings but because of the abuse of it, plays a much less important role right now. In fact, using your keyword too many times in your article could result you in being penalised by the search engines. It is indeed not that simple to earn money using adsense. After a few hundred postings, I have only managed to average $0 to $4.85 per day. In order to be a full time blogger, I reckon that one needs to earn $200 per day.

Based on my traffic count of around 200 views per day, i need to increase traffic to my website by about 100 times!!!

I am not too sure whether there are any tricks or tips that I can share. I think updating your site frequently with new information does help. Why it helps I do not really know. It is only the 22nd of May 09 and I have already earned a cool $16 from Adsense.

Okay, I know there are other people out there who earn like 100 times that amount in a day. But it is a feat for me.

$27 more before I get my pay cheque from Google

I am currently $27 away before I will be getting my pay cheque from Google for using its Adsense program. So far, I have earned over a total of $73 in adsense earnings.

My daily adsense earnings have also shown some improvement over the past 2 months as I have found more time to blog and stuff.

It looks like April 09 will be a record month for me. Have already earned $7 over dollars for this month. And there is still half a month more to go.

Okay. So I slacked a little during the month of March with little posts and stuff.

It resulted in my adsense earnings dropping from the high $8 of Feb 09 to a miserly $5.18

Oh well. Guess I will just have to put in 10 times more the effort for the month of April!
