Increase Readership of Your Blog

There are many ways to increase readership of your blog. For people who are famous, it is probably very easy. If you have a large network of friends who are willing to read your blog, it also helps. However, what I have achieved is to actually increase the readership of my blog without relying on any of these factors.

Well, content is really only ONE aspect of the entire equation. You could literally write a Nobel winning peace of work with the most ground-breaking discovery but it could be lost in the ocean of information in the internet.

So sorry. One good article or even one excellent article on a blog will not improve your readership by much.

Just think about it. What do people read everyday?

Answer: Newspapers

Why do people read newspapers everyday? If you can pinpont the reasons why people read newspapers, it should give you a clue on what readers are looking for in a blog too. Okay, there might be some difference but the idea is generally the same.

Adsense Earnings Stagnates

My adsense earnings have been stagnating for the longest time. For the past half a year or so, there has neither been a decrease or increase in my earnings.

Interestingly, some sites which I have not bothered updating are actually the ones that are giving me the regular stream of income. While others which I have been updating frequently are not as "productive". Perhaps the strategy I am using is wrong.

There is one particular site that I own which apparently gets the same number of visitors for the past 3 months even though I have not updated it at all!

After all, I have heard people talk about being passionate in what you do. And I guess that motivated me to throw away all the keyword research and SEO that I have been doing in the past. All the keyword research and SEO that I did in the past are probably what got me to where I am today.

I think I need to work smarter to make my adsense earnings go up.

Adsense Earnings Decline and Outsourcing Article Writing

My adsense earnings have been declining steadily over the past few weeks.

I have noticed it and quickly took action by writing more and also increasing the posting frequency. I guess my job hunt has taken a toll on my blogging efforts but I am still trying my best to keep up with blogging. It however can be difficult to produce unique and useful content all the time and I am deciding whether to outsource certain components of my blogs to some Indian firms which specialise in blog designs and article writing.

Content generation is actually the most time consuming aspect of blogging. Marketing also takes time but content generation must be the most tiring.

Should I or shouldn't I? I am not sure whether it will actually pay off in the long run to have other people write content for my sites but I guess the content can actually complement my original content and I could still write every now and then so that readers do not lose touch with me....

Passive Income From Blogs

It is possible to earn abit of passive income from blogging.

I have a blog which I have not worked much on for the past few months and it has been able to pull in a few dollars of passive income from adsense every month.

That is great considering that I do not have to do much work to earn that money.

I think that by writing content that is timeless, one will be able to create a blog that has informational value even after 10 years or 20 years. What is content that is timeless? It could be something that scholars or students or people will want to read up on even after 1 year or 2 years of writing.

Stuff like tabloid news are seldom timeless... For example, I believe there will be very little people searching for terms like BackStreet Boys or stuff nowadays. Today's tabloid news might not have any value 10 years down the road. Unless of course it is tabloid that is related to some big and famous star like Michael Jackson.

So write timeless content and your blog will be useful to readers for a long time.

The 1:1 Exchange Rate Error Bug in Adsense

Many people have reported the error in their online statements for May 2010 about an exchange error that affects those in Asia. Instead of the prevailing currency exchange rate that is used, the online statements shows a 1:1 exchange rate for the US$ to the currency of the adsense publisher's country.

So far, many people have highlighted this to Google and it seems that the problem will be rectified only after Monday due to the US holidays.

It states that though the online statements show the 1:1 exchange rate error, the checks that will be issued will be based on the correct exchange rate.

It does not seem that this is the first time that the exchange rate error bug has hit. A simple search on the internet revealed that the bug was first reported in 2008.
